Beamers save the day

 Wednesday 7 April

At dawn this morning there were no wombats, kangaroos, foxes, cats or dogs in our back garden. I know this because I peeked out the bathroom window as the sun came up. We did however see a beautiful rozella and Lady P nearly drove over a flock of galahs. Missed the lot, so no roast dinner tonight. We went into Canberra after a breakfast of bacon and eggs, which were provided by our hosts, for Flashy to cook on the BBQ. Afterwards, we visited the National Museum. This was a very impressive space internally and an impressive external design. We spent a lot of time in the First Australians exhibition (yawn from Flashman) and then went through the James Cook Endeavour exhibition (hooray from Flashman). This was well presented with both black and white sides of the story, but it felt like they were trying to do good old Jimmy’s reputation in by subtle means. Just sayin! We then went into the cafe for a pie and beer and headed off for a walk around the lake. At about 3,500 steps we spotted two purple scooters- Beamers - sitting on the lawn. Lady P determined that they were 1) available, 2) had about 20k’s left in the batteries and 3) were only $5 to hire. So, after much swearing from Flashy about the f**kin phone and not being able to read the screen – what an old grump, we managed to log in and ‘hire’ them and headed back to the car at a breathtaking speed of 22kms/h. It was a lot of fun. Flashman left the Ikea backpack on the table by the lake. Just sayin! Back home at the Loft, we research the dinner options in Bungandore, as there are not a lot of dining options open on Wednesday. Must be a Saint’s day or something. Our choices are a countery at the pub or a chow feed at the Bowlo. We opt for the George Hotel counter meal, as the menu looks pretty good. We don’t fancy a Chinese meal at the Bowling Club as we haven’t seen many Chinese around these here parts. The pub was rocking. Full of tradies in hi-vis, playing pool. Good eye candy for Lady P. Cold beer and a decent burger; not too bad calamari and chips, who could ask for more?

  2. Glad you managed to enjoy the scootering without mishap. They can be bloody dangerous even at such slow speed and at a much younger age. A friend of Jonathan broke both his elbows coming a cropper so take care and be safe. Linda
