Mudgee turns on the sunshine

 Monday 12 April

Cheap average Chinese in the pub last night (4/10). We did sleep in a bit this morning and did some admin things. A couple of our readers gently suggested that we punctuate the blog. “Some paragraph breaks would help,” they said and ‘how about a report on the step count?’ So we have provided both.

A walk around the town of Mudgee this morning, after a lovely breakfast of bacon and egg wrap and bun, saw us push up the step count. Flashy needed a stop at a pub for a bevvy. It was just 12 noon. Lady P felt the need to visit certain girly shops, so she made sure Flashy was placed at a bar table in Kelly’s Irish Pub. She only just refrained from hanging a sign around his neck saying,’ gone shopping, mind my husband and feed him Guinness!’ Back to the hotel room for a little quiet time for Flashy while Lady P reconnoitred more shops, before we headed out to Logan Winery for a tasting.

Logan give you six wines and we chose their Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Shiraz Viognier. All their wines were very well made and Flashy scored them 89-92 points. The ‘small world’ effect popped up at Logan Winery when a group of mid 30’s arrived and this tall handsome man recognised Lady P and came up and hugged her. Turns out he was the President of the RMO Society – Junior Doctors organisation at the Cairns Hospital and works closely with her on all things relating to Junior Doctors and their medical careers. It was a beautiful 20 degree day all day with clear blue skies and everyone we encountered was extra friendly. Amazing what a 12 month lockdown will do to sort out the hospitality staff especially in regional areas where visitors are the lifeblood of these towns.

We wandered along the road to a local bistro and seated in the cosy darkened attic space were treated to some simple share plates including some spectacular whitebait with a chilli garlic aioli – delicious. A pleasant bottle of Logan’s tempranillo to accompany.
